Hey Cal Archers,

There's been a mix-up, and our practice times are now Monday, Tuesday, Friday 6-8pm. Weekend Practices will still be held.

-Sterling Collins

06/08/08 - Summer Practices

Hello Cal Archers,

We have finally received the field schedule from the RSF. The practice schedule is as follows,

General Club Practice: Mon, Wed, Fri, 6-8pm. @ Clark Kerr Softball Field (where it always is)
Team Practice: Sat, 9-12pm. @ Clark Kerr Softball field
ASCENT Practice: Sun, 9-12pm @ Clark Kerr Softball Field

The calendar on the website has been changed to reflect these times. Unfortunately, the field will be closed until June 8th, so the first practice of the summer will be held on *June 9th*.

For those of you who have never shot with us before. I will be teaching a beginner session during practice on the Wednesday, June 11th. I'll be covering the basics of archery in a whirlwind fashion, with the goal of getting you comfortable enough to use our equipment by the end of practice. If you can't make it to the beginner session on the 11th and want to take one on another day, please let me know.

I'll see you on the field,

-Sterling Collins

Good news everyone. Today, we are going to offer a free equipment seminar. There, you'll be able to learn about all the tiniest details about the equipment that the team uses, and get some information to help you start building your own dream bow! I went to the equipment seminar before i bought my first bow, and it really gave me an opportunity to learn more about the mechanical side of archery, and also gave me a great venue to ask questions. Also, to help you guys out, Cat Wu has compiled an updated list of recommended archery setups with both descriptions and price ranges available here.

11/17/07 - Golfland
Greetings, fellow Archery enthusiasts! The Castro Valley Golfland outing was quite successful, so congratulations and thank you once again to those who gave rides and helped to organize it. It served as a great opportunity for bonding while having ridiculous fun, and there will hopefully be many similar events to come. For those who wanted to but were unable to go, please try to stay active on the forums to learn about future events early so you can plan ahead and join in on the fun. Organizing such events would be much easier if we knew how many participants plan to attend before the actual date of the event, so please inform the organizers about your decision if you do indeed decide to come along. Offering to drive when there is a shortage will also be highly appreciated, because we leave no archer behind. Stay tuned!

-Terry Liu

11/03/07 - Cal Archery Club Shoot
This weekend we faced off in a cal club shoot featuring some very special guests: members from the Standford archery club . Held at our very own CKC Golden Bear Softball field from 9am-2pm, the tournament included an idividual round and a mixed team round, both at 18 meters. This awesome tournament gave each competitor an opportunity to meet other archers, show off thier skill, and of course for us, to kick some standford butt. The day was filled with plenty of impressive shots and excitement. COngrats to: Victor Chia with the highest individual round score in compound with a 278, Sojuna Park with the highest individual round score in recurve with a 262 and Catherine Wu, Alex Gray, and Alex Zaretskiy for winning the team round, Thanks to everyone who came out.

Keaton will then confirm your scheduled session. The cost will be $8 for the session, with no obligation to join the club. This is a good way to try archery, to see if you like it. Carpools will leave from the Lower Hearst Parking lot, ground level, at precisely 6:10 PM. If you sign-up and do not show-up, the Club will likely ignore your future reservations.

If you have a vehicle, and are willing to drive other students to the practice, and back to campus, please indicate so when you sign-up. Your practice session will be free. This offer is limited to the first four drivers to sign-up for each session. All drivers must fill-out a driver registration form.

06/28/06 - Catherine Wu wins Rookie of the Year Award
Congratulations to Catherine Wu (left) on winning Rookie-of-the-Year in the Women's recurve Division at the recent US Intercollegiate Archery Championships. Rookie of the Year is an important award for new collegiate archers. It is awarded to the rookie in each category that gets the highest FITA score at the USIACs. For the first time ever, the rookies have received sponsorship. Hoyt provided a bow of choice to each recurve rookie. Mathews, Inc. provided a bow of choice to each compound rookie. We appreciate the outstanding support by these companies to college archery. Catherine began shooting last Fall, quickly rose to the top of the Cal Archery Team, and became Team Captain in the Spring. Cal Archery is proud of her achievement.
05/03/06 - Compound bow donation from The Bow Rack
California Archery thanks Mr. Bob Yerman, owner and operator of the Bow Rack, for his recent donation of a Hoyt UltraTec compound bow to the Club. Mr. Yerman has been an avid supporter of the Club since its inception last year. The compound bow, shown being used by Alex, will enable our Club to start a compound archery program, which until now has been prohibitively expensive for student budgets. Bob, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts, not just for the bow, but for all the assistance you have provided to us since our beginning.

California Archery is a registered student group with the Office of Student Life at the University of California, Berkeley. ASUC. Wheelchair accessible.
