General Information

Established fall 2005, California Archery is a student-run club that provides an opportunity for the Berkeley community to experience archery as a recreational and competitive sport. People of all ages and skill levels are welcome.

Cal Archery is both a Rec sport and a Competitive sport. We accept people of all skills and experience levels, although we have a limited amount of equipment. We practice year round, but the competition season is from January to May.

Fees:

The Membership Fee this semester is $40 for students, $70 for non-students, payable by check only made out to “UC Regents / California Archery Club”. We are one of the lowest cost clubs on campus. Everyone pays the fee, and everyone must have a liability waiver form on file. These items are due the first time you practice with us this semester, and we will strictly enforce these requirements. The only exception is if you are new to the club, and would like to try one practice session to see if you like us. After that, you must be a member to continue practicing with us.

Membership cost is now a flat fee. There will no longer be session fees for on-campus practices (note Bow Rack is a private off-campus facility). All equipment will be provided, however people may be asked to share the Club-owned equipment if there is an unusually large turn-out.

We will be practicing at 3 locations: the Softball Field at the Clark Kerr Residential Campus, the RSF Combatives Room, and The Bow Rack (in San Pablo).

On Campus Shooting:
Softball Field, Clark Kerr Campus

When the weather is clear, and the field is in good shape, long-range practice for experienced archers and shorter distance practice for beginners/intermediate will be held as follows:

Note: These times are for the Fall 2008 semester. However, the field is closed until September 14th. Until then we will be shooting on the Underhill Field. Please check the main page for shooting times.

There is no longer a minimum score requirement to shoot on the field. However, anyone may be asked to practice at closer distances if his/her skill level is hazardous to other people or to the facilities. Beginner's will shoot at blank bale (short distance at a blank target mat) in order to continue to develop basic form and technique. As your strength and skill progresses, advanced club/team members will evaluate your performance and advance you to longer distances appropriately (shooting with the advanced group is an excellent opportunity to learn more about technique, equipment, and competition. Talk with us!). You will be expected to help set-up and takedown the range equipment.

Combatives Room, RSF (intermediate and advanced practice)

Indoor practices for experienced members will be held on Sundays, 3:00 – 5:00 PM. Please contact an officer of the archery club prior to practice to check for space and eligibility, and please arrive at 3:30 PM to help set-up. In order to use this facility, you must be able to score at least 100 on a 30 arrow round at 18 m (with no wild shots). Any of the club officers can test and qualify you. You will be expected to help set-up and takedown the range equipment. Club equipment is available for you to borrow.

Bow Rack (a private facility in San Pablo, all level practice):

Official practices will no longer be held at the bow rack on a regular basis, however beginners are encouraged to practice at the bow rack on their own if they can. The fee is $8 per person per session, payable directly to the owner of the facility. This fee is discounted from the Bow Rack’s regular practice fee, and includes equipment rental. Depending on circumstances, the club may decide to hold official practices and lessons at the Bow Rack in the future.

In the event of a Cal Archery sponsored Bow Rack practice, we meet and leave from Lower Hearst Parking Lot (down the hill from Foothill Residence Units and Etcheverry Hall, on Hearst Ave. between Euclid and Scenic), NOT Upper Hearst Parking Lot (directly across the street from the Foothill Units). Please be sure you go to the correct lot. Drivers who perform ferry service between campus and the Bow Rack will be able to practice for free. Carpools will leave from the carpool area on the first level of the Lower Hearst Parking Lot (located across the street from campus on the north side, on Hearst Ave, near Scenic Ave.). Please, please, please, be there by 6:00 PM for loading. Cars will leave promptly at 6:10 PM. We will leave you behind if you are late. In case there are too many people, and not enough drivers, priority will be by who arrived at the waiting area first.

To attend a Bow Rack practice session, you must send e-mail to (Michael Rosario) to reserve a spot for the desired date, because of space limitations. Your reservation is confirmed by email. If you sign-up for a Bow Rack practice, please show up. If you cannot make the practice, please send e-mail to Keaton Chia to cancel your reservation at least 72 hours before practice. This way, someone else can have the spot. If you sign-up and do not show-up, the Club will likely ignore your future reservations.

If you have a vehicle, and are willing to drive other students to and from the Bow Rack and campus, please indicate so when you sign-up. Your practice session will be FREE. This offer is limited to the first four drivers to sign-up for each session. All drivers must fill-out a driver registration form.
